We raised $7M to Make Data a Pleasure

The first end to end DuckDB powered data stack is available today.

by Mike Godsey

Warehouse, analytics, ETL, governance, and cataloging; if you’ve got data, you know these products. Sadly, you’re likely also familiar with: price gouging, endless tooling, and the workload of manually gluing it all together. This has been the status quo in data for years, with little sign of change from legacy players. We were craving something better.

Then, DuckDB was released and the door was opened to bring raw power and delightful ergonomics across the entire data stack. The ease of use, jaw dropping performance, in-browser WASM distribution, and remote file handling were a game changer. We knew instantly this was a technology to rally behind, so we formed a company and set out on a mission to make data a pleasure.

Making some friends along the way

We met some like minded people who believed in our vision, and we partnered together to build Summer. We raised a $7M seed round, led by RRE, with participation from a group of incredible funds and angels. Following this fundraise, we’re capitalized, staffed, and rapidly executing on the next generation of data tooling.

Summer 2025, now the hottest summer on record

Our small team has been heads down working to deliver on our mission, and today we couldn’t be more excited to release the first ever end to end DuckDB powered data stack.

This first version includes the three most critical components of the data stack: ETL, warehouse, and analytics. Each segment is powered under the hood by DuckDB, and we’ll have more to say about that, including open source announcements, in the coming weeks.

We hope you enjoy Summer, and we look forward to working with you to make data a pleasure.
