We started Summer a few years ago with the strong conviction that DuckDB would eventually rule every facet of the data industry. Warehouse, ingest, analytics, transformations, everything. At the time, this was a bit of a hot take, but today this view is shared by many. Our conviction has only grown stronger, as DuckDB relentlessly improves, stabalizes, and expands.
Joining forces
One way to hasten this eventuallity is for the DuckDB community to work together, combine strengths, and deliver best in class experiences that make legacy providers look…well…legacy. We’re excited to announce that MotherDuck is now a first class warehouse option in Summer, supported by our DuckDB based ETL and Analytics tooling. We are also committing to support any DuckDB compute providers, be they hyperscaler or startup, that may emerge in the future.
Our MotherDuck support is live today in beta and our platform will be free for MotherDuck customers until we exit the beta phase. During the beta period, accounts will need to choose either a Summer or MotherDuck based warehouse on signup, but support for both warehouses in the same account will be in place before this feature is marked GA.
We’ve long admired MotherDuck, and supporting a fellow company who are all in on DuckDB feels like a natural progression. We’ve got tons more DuckDB native tooling coming down the pipeline we’re excited to share, stay tuned!
